"Ring Ring" es el gran sencillo de 1973 de ABBA, que dio su aparición grande al grupo en Australia y partes de Europa. Fue escrita al principio en sueco por Benny Andersson y Björn Ulvaeus, con su gerente Stig Anderson, y Neil Sedaka y Phil Cody ayudó a la posterior traducción en la lírica inglesa.

Después del éxito "La Gente Necesita Amor" en 1972 por Björn y Benny, Agnetha y Anni-Frid, el gerente del grupo, Stig Anderson, con Andersson y Ulvaeus, realizó el potencial de acoplar los talentos vocal de Agnetha y Frida con los talentos de escritura de Björn y Benny.

Andersson, Ulvaeus y Anderson fueron invitados a presentar una canción para la entrada sueca al Festival de la Canción de Eurovisión de 1973. Después de varios días, Andersson y Ulvaeus escribieron la melodía para la canción sueca "Ring Ring", con el título "Klocklåt". Stig Anderson escribió la lírica con la intención de hacer una canción llamada "The Poppy", tratando de quitar las pompas, a causa de las circunstancias que rodea el Festival de la Canción de Eurovisión. Después de esto, la canción fue titulada nuevamente como "Ring Ring" Para hacerla más accesible a una audiencia universal, Anderson pidió al compositor de canciones americano Neil Sedaka escribir la letra para una versión inglesa, junto con su compañero, el compositor, Phil Cody.

El 10 de enero de 1973, la canción fue registrada en el Estudio Metrónomo en Estocolmo. Michael B. Tretow, el ingeniero de estudio, colaboró con Andersson y Ulvaeus sobre muchos de sus individuales subsecuentes y álbumes. Tretow había leído un libro sobre el productor de registro Phil Spector, célebre por su "Sonido De Pared" al tratamiento de las canciones que él produjo. Mientras Spector usó a varios músicos que tocan los mismos instrumentos en el mismo estudio de grabación al mismo tiempo, esto era lejano demasiado caro para este caso. Así, la solución de Tretow fue simplemente registrar la pista de apoyo de la canción dos veces, para alcanzar un sonido orquestal. Cambiando la velocidad de la cinta entre el sobredoble, haciendo los instrumentos ligeramente en la melodía, esto aumentó el efecto. Esta fue la gran diferencia que nunca antes se había hecho en la historia de la música sueca.

Sin embargo, cuando Björn y Benny, Agnetha y Anni-Frid tocaron "Ring Ring" en las clasificaciones, ellos lograron terminar tan sólo en un tercer lugar, la canción tuvo más éxito en las cartas suecas, tanto en sus encarnaciones de lengua suecas como inglesas, donde esta anotó golpes número uno y número dos espectivamente.
